Bill Guaranteeing Universal COVID-19 Testing at Nursing Homes to be Introduced

STANISLAUS COUNTY – After a nursing home in Turlock had over 150 positive COVID-19 test and nearly 20 deaths, the Nursing Home Pandemic Safety Act of 2020 will be introduced this week by District 10 Representative Josh Harder.

“Nursing homes are the epicenter of this pandemic – residents are at higher risk because of their age, preexisting conditions, and their close proximity – we have to prioritize testing at these facilities,” Said Representative Harder.

This will require nursing homes to test residents and employees with the help of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Congressman Harder’s office states the bill would also require the HHS to enter into contracts with test producers to procure tests specifically designated for nursing homes and skilled nursing homes.

The nursing home reports that 25 residents and 25 workers have recovered.
