Gang Members Arrested For Firearm Possession

MERCED – The Merced Police Gang Violence Suppression Unit arrested several gang members Thursday, May 15th.

Police say when a vehicle stop was conducted for a traffic violation in the 1100 block Canal Street at around 6:09 pm, two male juveniles immediately ran from the car but were later apprehended one block away.

After officers checked the area suspects ran toward, a 9mm-semi auto hand gun and high capacity magazine were found.

According to police the driver of the car was identified as 42 year old Robert Yanez, and is a validated gang member on parole. He was booked into the Merced County Jail for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, vehicle code violations, gang enhancements and a parole violation.

The juveniles were booked at the Merced County Juvenile Hall for weapons charges and gang enhancements.
