MERCED – Police arrested a man Wednesday who is accused in a fatal shooting that took place earlier in the week.
Police say 33 year old Francisco J. Alvarez was arrested after a brief pursuit. Alvarez was located at a home in Merced County. Investigators tried to stop Alvarez as he was leaving, but he fled in a vehicle. The pursuit ended near the area of Howard Road and Longview Avenue in Merced County.
Authorities say Alvarez was arrested in connection to a shooting death that happened shortly after midnight on May 11th.
That night, officers with the Merced Police Department responded to a report of gun shots fired near the 900 block of West 19th Street. A man was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was rushed to a hospital where he later died.
Alvarez, who police say is a known gang member, was booked into the Merced County Jail for murder and gang enhancement charges.
