CERES – Authorities released more information Tuesday including names of the victims and suspect of a double murder-suicide which occurred early Monday morning.
Authorities say 34-year-old Manpreet Kaur and her son from a previous relationship 12-year-old Gurman Singh, were killed by Kaur’s husband, 55-year-old Jang Singh. They had been married for the past for years.
According to police, Kaur and her son had moved from India to live with Singh and have since lived in the city of Ceres for the past four months.
Police say Kaur and her son were sleeping in the living room early Monday morning because Singh’s 80-year-old mother was staying the night. Singh later entered the living room and shot Kaur and her son while they were asleep. After shooting his wife and her son, Singh walked to his room and shot himself.
Singh’s mother woke up to the sound of gunfire and noticed what happened. She then went to neighbors for help. They called police immediately.
Police have no information as to why Singh killed his wife and her son. Singh’s mother’s name is also being withheld by police.
The entire murder was captured by surveillance cameras Singh had placed inside the apartment “some time ago,” according to police. Police also say the cameras were not hidden.
